What is African Hand Drumming?

African drumming is an accessible, inclusive and stimulating way to improve people's wellbeing. It is also a wonderfully successful approach to addressing a range of issues that affect all of us - young and old, disabled and able-bodied - by engaging with people in an active and creative way.

  • Rhythm techniques can help reduce stress, promote concentration and create mental and physical wellbeing.
  • Research has shown hand drumming can help boost the immune system and have long-term calming and soothing effects.

Most of all… it's a fun way to discover another culture and share this experience in a group!

Who We Work With

Dogon Music has been working with schools, youth services, local authorities, charities involved in mental health and learning disabilities and many other organisations in the UK, Europe and Africa.

Our sessions are particularly effective with disruptive young people and vulnerable adults, as drumming helps develop:

  • Self-esteem
  • Positive identity
  • Discipline to stay on task
  • Listening skills
  • Team building skills

Team Building & Events

Dogon Music runs team building days for businesses looking for a creative way to bring their staff together so they can constructively engage with each other.

We regularly take part in cultural events including Black History Month and summer festivals.

We can run taster sessions or develop bespoke programmes to meet your specific needs. All our drummers and facilitators are CRB/DBS checked.
